Lockdown Easter

“Hallelujah, you have won the victory
Hallelujah, you have won it all for me
Death could not hold you down
You are the risen king
Seated in majesty
You are the risen king...” The Anthem

EASTER. A time to honour the fulfilled prophecy of the Messiah who would be persecuted, die for our sins and rise on the third day (Isaiah 53) . For long, it has been our way to renew daily hope that we have victory over sin. Many Christians worldwide usually gather and celebrate this season with special church services, music, candlelight dinners; not forgetting Easter bunnies, coloured eggs, gift baskets, and flowers. It has always been a time of joy and union for many families.

However, things have drastically changed. Who knew that the entire continent would be faced with a catastrophic pandemic that would wipe away millions from this Earth? The Coronavirus, also known as Covid-19, has taken the Universe on a spin with multitudes in quarantine, self-isolation, or lockdown. As businesses close, unemployment grips. Thousands have been left battling to survive on small savings, families have disintegrated; the world has stopped.

Easter 2020 will be like no other, but let’s count our blessings. Thanks to digital technology, we have all kept in touch and accepted the realities of life. We have sought ways to make the most of our first — and, we hope, last — Easter in self-isolation, quarantine, and lockdown. We can only have FAITH that there will be a sudden change of circumstances.

Wondering how to make this Easter worthwhile? Here are a few suggestions:

“If you can’t have family and friends over for a festive Easter meal, open Zoom or FaceTime in the kitchen and cook your own meal along with them...” said Valerie Gordon.
Nothing wrong with a virtual Easter dinner, right?

Read the Word of God
John 11:25-26:
"Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?'"
1 Peter 1:3:
"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead."
1 Corinthians 15:21:
"For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man."
Philippians 3:10:
"I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death."
Acts 4:33:
"With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God's grace was so powerfully at work in them all."
Luke 24:6-7:
"He is not here; he has risen!"
Romans 8:34:
"Who then is the one who condemns? No one."
Philippians 2:8:
"And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!"
1 Corinthians 6:14:
"And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power."
Romans 6:9:
"We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him."

Embrace the spirit of Easter
Easter is a time to give back with acts of kindness to those in need. This year consider supporting one of the nonprofit organizations helping with COVID-19 relief efforts. With so many suffering, it is also a time to recount all that we are grateful for.

“Easter is about the ultimate power of love.Easter reminds us that love is stronger than our broken hearts, troubled spirits and ailing bodies. Easter reminds us that life will go on — and that love is always, always greater than fear.” ~Rev. Mike Kinman

Happy Easter!
